Falcon Surf Car
One evening while driving down coast highway 101 in Cardiff-by-the-sea in California, I spotted this surfmobile parked along the roadside, as the light was waning. i had been down in Del Mar shooting on the beach at sunset, and by the time I headed north it was getting pretty dark. What a great opportunity, but I wanted to go around few blocks over the railroad tracks and shoot from a distance where I could be elevated. It was a rush to get some light available from a distance. Parked and getting the tripod setup and camera mounted quickly, I began shooting with a 100-400mm lens as usual, and made a few exposures, not knowing exactly the correct settings. I figured I'd bracket from a few seconds to 30 sec, and adjust a aperture or two to get some depth. I could see on the back of the camera i was getting something, it was best to stop down a bit, and let cars run on by and get a bout a 20sec exposure to capture the car lights streaming by. It also illuminated the car it self. By this time is was fairly dark, but enough light out in the ocean from the sunset to get detail in the background.
